Viña Errazuriz - Chile

Errazuriz was founded in 1870 when Don Maximiano Errazuriz planted his first vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley. Eduardo Chadwick, a direct descendant of Don Maximiano, runs the company today and the whole ethic of Errazuriz is focused around the production of top class wines. Based in the Aconcagua Valley, Errazuriz also have estates in the Casablanca and Maipo Valley from which grapes are also sourced.

In 2004, an international jury consisting of many of Europe’s top wine writers and wine buyers placed two Errazuriz red wines ahead of many of the most expensive and well-reputed wines of Italy and France in a special first growth blind tasting in Berlin. In an historic decision, established French ‘classics’ such as Château Lafite, Château Margaux, Château Latour; and Italian cult wines, Tignanello, Sassicaia, Solaia and Guado al Tasso, were placed by judges behind the two winning wines, both from Errazuriz.

In 2005 a similar event took place in Brazil, again with good results for the Chileans.

In 2004, Errazuriz produced new livery for all ranges and introduced Stelvin screwcaps for the first time, which went on to win the Drinks Business New Design and Packaging award 2005.

2005 was also a year in which Errazuriz Merlot 2004 won both the Great Value Red Wine Trophy of the Year, and the Chilean Red Wine Trophy 2005 at the IWC, and in which their new, premium level The Blend, picked up Decanter's Gold Medal in the World Wine Awards.
