Gonzalez Byass
Since its beginning, 175 years ago, Gonzalez Byass has been passionate about producing wines of exceptional and consistent quality. Famous for its world class range of sherry, the company has more recently expanded its interests into the light wine sector, earning an enviable reputation for its top quality wines. With over 1,800 hectares of vineyards and wineries in five areas of Spain, the Gonzalez Byass portfolio represents the very best of both the traditional face of Spanish wine and modern winemaking and innovation.
R&R work with Gonzalez Byass on their wine offering. This includes the following:
Bodegas Beronia, DOCa Rioja
In the Basque region of Northern Spain there is a long standing tradition of Gastronomic Societies, where men with a passion for food and drink form clubs to meet, cook and appreciate food and wine. One such group of friends believed that they could produce wines to complement their culinary prowess; the result was Bodegas Beronia, which was such a success that they found themselves with more excellent wine than they could enjoy themselves. In 1982, Gonzalez Byass bought the Bodega, and Beronia has now grown to become one of the most popular Rioja brands in Spain.
The Beronia offering includes the Classic Range, the Beronia Colección and the outstanding icon wine, Beronia III a.C.
Finca Constancia
Finca Constancia marks a new era in Gonzalez Byass’ wine business. Identifying a need for modern, fruit-driven wines, together with an ambition to produce wines of the highest quality, the company researched areas where this goal could be realised. In 2001, the planting programme began on a new 230 hectare property in Otero, near Toledo. A state of the art winery was built using the latest technology, with careful regard to environmental impact, and the first vintage was produced in 2006. The winery was named Finca Constancia to reflect the company ethos of dedication to quality, first stated by founder Manuel Maria Gonzalez, and which is still at the heart of the business today.
The Gonzalez Byass Altozano Range
Gonzalez Byass created the award-winning Altozano range in Finca Constancia to provide excellent value, consistent quality wines made in a fruit-driven style.
Viñas del Vero
Somontano is a young and dynamic Denominación de Origen, set up in 1985, which in just a few years has succeeded in earning itself a fine winemaking reputation. Viñas del Vero is the leading producer in the DO, accounting for over 40% of the area’s wines, and is recognised for making superb wines from both indigenous and international grape varieties. Founded in 1986, the company owes its name to the river Vero, which runs through the dramatic landscape.
Vilarnau
Vilarnau made its first aged cavas in the town of Sant Sadurni d’Anoia in 1949. Sixty years later, the wines are now made in a state of the art winery, whose sleek minimalist design couldn’t be further removed from the fortified Romanesque house from which the company takes its name.
Specialising in long-aged cavas, Vilarnau has over two and a half million bottles in stock, stored in temperature controlled cellars to ensure consistency of style and quality year after year.
Finca Moncloa
On the route of the “Pueblas Blancas” in Andalucia, Arcos de la Frontera is considered to be one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. The area is generally associated with Sherry production, but in fact has a long forgotten tradition of making red wines, with records dating back to the 14th century.
Gonzalez Byass recognised the quality potential of the grapes from the area and in 2000 they bought Finca Moncloa, a 42 acre estate on clay and limestone soils, with a Mediterranean climate, producing red grapes with great intensity.
