Innis & Gunn - Edinburgh

This pioneering Scottish Brewing Company was the first to use ‘first fill’ oak barrels in the ageing of its beers. This innovative process was discovered by happy accident in 2003 and Dougal Sharp, Managing Director of Innis & Gunn, has been bottling this delicious brew ever since.

The flavours imparted by the hand-cut American white oak barrels lend an incredible depth of taste to the beer, while the unique 77-day maturation process (ten times the national average) lends even more character and complexity to the beers.

Innis & Gunn ‘Original’

Launched in 2003, this beer has since become a consistent multi-award winner.

Food pairings:

• Barbequed or seared steaks and sausages with their caramelized, charred skin, complement perfectly the succulent malt and caramel tones in the beer

• Sweetly seared scallops, with salty, smoky pancetta contrast really well with the sweetness in the beer.

• With its sweet, fruity tones, Innis & Gunn works brilliantly with tomato based curries like Bhuna and Rogan Josh, as well as vegetable-rich stews and more creamy curries like Korma.

• Lots of pudding dishes are delicious paired with Innis & Gunn because of its creamy, complex character – try Cheesecake, Crème Brulee, Tarte Tatin, Bread & Butter pudding and Treacle tart to name but a few!

Melville's fruit beers

Melville's Strawberry and Melville's Raspberry beer (4.1% abv, 275ml) were launched by independent Scottish Brewing Company Innis & Gunn, on 1st June 2011. Brewed using 100% Scottish fruit, these crisp, refreshing fruit lagers are ideal served 'over ice' to release a rush of pure fruit flavours and aromas.

Melville's is made with juice from delicious Glen Ample raspberries and Jubilee strawberries, hand-picked in Scotland and cold-pressed to preserve the vibrant, zesty fruit flavours. The base is a pure brewed lager made of 100% malted barley, hops, yeast and water which is expertly blended with the cold pressed fruit juice to produce an intensely refreshing beer full of exhilarating summer fruit flavours.
