Journey's End
Journey’s End is a stunning boutique vineyard site in the Stellenbosch region of South Africa, benefiting from south-facing slopes and cool coastal breezes.
The Gabb family purchased this picturesque farm and the surrounding vines in 1995. Along with 50ha of vineyards Journey’s End also boasts a state of the art 150 ton crush winery, a fully-operational Equestrian Centre, guest accommodation in picturesque cottages on-site and bespoke lunches for visitors.
The Philosophy at Journey’s End is to produce top-quality single-vineyard and appellation wines, true to the terroir of the vineyards and climatic benefits of the region.
Total production from the vineyards is no more than 6,000 cases of wine per year. Vineyard manager Paul Fourie rigorously prunes the vines to ensure very low yields, producing no more than 2.5 tonnes per acre. Due to the coastal position of the site Paul is largely able to avoid spraying and use of pesticides.
Winemaker Leon Esterhuizen uses only the fruit from the 20ha of Journey’s End vineyards. His aim is to produce wonderfully elegant, balanced and complex wines which retain all the fruit purity and freshness.
The range of Journeys End wines were launched with Bibendum Wine in September 2007 and can be found in some of the country’s top independent retailers and restaurants including Claridges, the Savoy, Quo Vadis and Fino.
