Villa Maria Estate - New Zealand

Since George Fistonich founded Villa Maria in 1961, it has grown in reputation to become New Zealand's largest privately owned winery and it has been making New Zealand's most awarded wines for over 30 years.  In the 2007 'International Wine challenge', Villa Maria Estate received the White Winemaker of the Year accolade for their Group Winemaker, Alastair Maling MW.

This success has been achieved through the Villa Maria team's total commitment to the quality of its varietal wines. Each year Villa Maria selects grapes from the country’s premium wine growing regions – Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne and Marlborough. Under the watchful and highly involved gaze of Alastair Maling MW, the team work tirelessly to vinify and blend the wines.

Located inside the crater of a 20,000 year old extinct volcano, Villa Maria’s Auckland winery sits nestled among rows of vines, and lies close to the magnificent Manukau Harbour. The shape of the land provides a natural amphitheatre which regularly hosts concerts and events.

A pioneer of the screwcap closure, all Villa Maria wines have been sealed with a screwcap since 2002 to guard against cork taint and oxidation, ensuring that each bottle tastes as the winemaker intended.

Villa Maria produce a range of still wines, both white and red, single varietals and blends, which are grouped as follows:

  • Private Bin

  • Cellar Selection

  • Reserve

  • Single Vineyard

Distribution of these wines is very wide and prices range from £7.99 to £19.99.
