Familia Zuccardi - Argentina

It really is a family affair with Familia Zuccardi, forty- six years old, and three generations young. They remain one of Argentina’s leading family-owned wineries. Created almost by accident by Don Alberto Zuccardi, the Argentine wine map would look very different was it not for the engineer’s drive and innovation.

When Don Alberto planted what would become the very first Zuccardi vineyard, in 1963, he was more concerned with demonstrating the effectiveness of his patented irrigation system. Since that day, much water has passed under the vines and Mendoza has blossomed into a viticultural Eden. José Alberto Zuccardi, Don Alberto’s son, now presides over the company and he in turn has been joined in the winery by his eldest son Sebastian. Sebastian has already shown a particular aptitude for sparkling wines, being awarded the Sparkling Wine Trophy at the inaugural internationally judged Wines of Argentina Awards 2007.

There are many levels to the Zuccardi’s wines. They are widely available in both the Off and On Trade through their UK agents Thierry’s and Alliance Wine, respectively. The Santa Julia range offers fruit-driven everyday pleasure wines for the home market. The Santa Julia Reserva wines, again named in honour of José Alberto’s daughter, have more structure and complexity as befits their oak ageing. Santa Julia Organica provides a taste of the company’s heavenly organic wines. Over in the On Trade, keep an eye out for the premium level Zuccardi ‘Q’ range of ‘quality’ wines, for the ‘quintessential’ taste of Zuccardi. The latest addition to the Zuccardi portfolio is the Zuccardi Serie ‘A’ range, while at the top of the Zuccardi ladder is Zuccardi Zeta, their very own Malbec Tempranillo blend and the ultimate Argentine fine wine.

They were the first Argentine winery to plant Viognier. They lead the way in organic production in Argentina. They were the very first Argentine winery to open an on-site restaurant. They offer horse and bicycle tours of their vineyards and will even take visitors for wine in the sky tours in their very own hot air balloon over the vines.
